Making and Breaking Rules: Game Design as a Critical Practice
Games are one of the most ancient forms of designed interactivity. And even today, games provide some of the nest examples of truly engaging, technologically mediated, social experience. But do we really know what games are, how they function, and how they can be designed for meaningful experiences? This talk will explore some of the fundamentals of game design, with an eye towards understanding how they operate as designed structures, as human experience, and as culture. In concert with these ideas, Eric will present a model game design as a model for an emerging form of literacy that will be increasingly important in the coming century.
