Teaching English to Young Learners. These clusters of courses are designed especially for students who wish to expand their knowledge, skills and abilities in teaching English to these student populations. Additionally, students may study elective courses leading towards a certificate in Translation (i.e., English-Hebrew/Hebrew-English).
Tutors’ Program: This unique hands-on program is designed to prepare graduates for tutoring or teaching English in small groups at primary, secondary and adult levels. Areas of study include: English grammar and pedagogical grammar, language teaching methodology for beginners, intermediate and advanced learners, remedial teaching, teaching English for special purposes, teaching native English speakers, creativity and innovation in language teaching including material development and assessment, business English, the matriculation exams, and distant learning, The course takes place on Thursdays from 8:30 to 15:45. The Practicum Experience: The practicum courses progress from primary to secondary schools. Students spend a great deal of time observing and practicing teaching in schools within the P.D.S (Professional Development School) model. Students are guided to work on long-term projects that involve collaboration between students, mentor teachers and the pedagogical advisors.
On-Line Courses: Our program involves students in a variety of learning environments and instructional delivery methods. Distance education is used as an integral part of our program in order to provide our students with the opportunity to develop skills and strategies required for on-line teaching and learning. Additionally, this mode of instruction, allows students to study some of the courses on their own schedule.
Scholarships: English is one of the preferred subjects in the Israeli Ministry of Education. Students studying in the English Department towards a teaching certificate are eligible for a conditional, preferred scholarship issued by the Ministry of Education throughout their studies. Additionally, the English Department offers a number of merit scholarships and awards based on academic achievements, diligence and community service.
The Learning Environment: Throughout their studies, students are given personal guidance and support in both disciplinary courses and practical experience.
