Distinguished Artist Guy Ben-Ner Appointed Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts-HaMidrasha

Guy Ben-Ner, an accomplished international video artist, has been appointed Acting Dean of HaMidrasha, and is determined to set the Faculty of Arts on a fresh course.

A renowned international video artist, Guy Ben-Ner’s work has been exhibited the world over, from New York to Berlin, Montreal to Melbourne. He is the 2018 laureate of the prestigious Landau Prize for Arts in Visual Arts and previously represented Israel in the 2005 Venice Biennale.

Ben-Ner was plenty busy before taking on the position of Acting Dean at Beit Berl’s Faculty of Arts- HaMidrasha. A graduate of HaMidrasha, Ben-Ner has been a lecturer in the Faculty for the past eight years, ever since returning from living abroad. “HaMidrasha is a home for me. I’m happy to take the job because of the place,” he says.

Ben-Ner’s first month as Acting Dean has been intense. Ben-Ner comes into this role at a crucial crossroads for HaMidrasha. “We have to focus on our strengths, and redesign our academic program accordingly. I’m optimistic. There’s so much positive energy in the Faculty – the lecturers and students are all amazing.”

Beit Berl College's Faculty of Arts-HaMidrasha, founded in 1946, is a recognized institution in the Israeli arts scene. The program offers B.Ed. F.A. – a joint bachelor’s degree in education and arts – with concentrations in fine arts, film studies and digital media, as well as M.Ed. in Art Education, M.A.A.T. in Art Therapy, and a Post-Graduate Fine Arts program. HaMidrasha plays an important role in Israeli culture by nurturing young artists, and opening fresh discourse in the fields of painting, sculpture and photography, as well as video art, digital media, and film. Our 150 faculty members and thousands of graduates are among Israel's leading artists, initiating key transformations in the country’s art and culture scene – both as artists and as teachers – bringing their very special critical perspective to bear on the society at large.
