Developing Global Community Science Education

Beit Berl College Professor Daphne Goldman and Dr. Ariel Sarid won the EU Horizon 2020 call to foster open schooling in science education. Creating Organizational Structures for Meaningful Science Education through Open Schooling for all (COSMOS)
is a three-year program to be implemented in primary and secondary schools in six countries (Sweden, UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal and Israel). Prof. Goldman and Dr. Sarid - the principal investigators from Israel – are working with 12 partners from higher education institutes, ministries, NGO’s and science centers.

The team distinguished Socio-Scientific Inquiry-Based Learning as a means for bringing together learners, teachers, scientists, community leaders, parents, and other stakeholders to support the teaching and learning of science. The team also focuses on Teacher Professional Development, the pedagogical capacity building of educational teams in participating schools. These teams will select Authentic Socio-Scientific issues relevant for the school community, around which they will design and implement learning units in science classes. This process is led by the teachers and, uniquely, will be conducted as a community-of practice that includes the school team and community members.

COSMOS is yet another forward-looking academic program to build knowledge in the field and advance science teaching and learning in Israel, in Europe, and ultimately for all.

תודה, הבקשה נשלחה.
