Resilience, Awareness and Emergency Preparedness: The Case of Arab Society in Israel

On May 15th, 200 of Israel's security forces, first responders, and local and government officials took part in the conference. The conference, organized by Beit Berl College, under the lead of the Head of the Department of Security and Home Front Defense

Dr. Avi Bitzur, and in cooperation with Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs, sought to highlight challenges of resilience in Israel's Arab communities.

The conference emphasized the need to close socio-economic gaps and develop partnerships in order to build resilience and security in Israel's collective society. Speaking of his work to narrow gaps under the current five-year development plan for Arab communities,  MK Mansour Abbas, shared:  "Our partnership, as Arabs and Jews, is what enables us to develop social resilience. Not only do we have a civic partnership and a social contract that binds us together as citizens; but we also have a connection as human beings."

Minister of Welfare and Services Meir Cohen invited Dr. Bitzur to be part of an advisory committee to develop the new Resilience Centers the Ministry aims to establish in Arab society in Israel. Beit Berl is now working collaboratively with Mr. Hassan Tuafra, Chairman of the Economic Development Authority of Arab society in Israel, on the program's development.
