HaMidrasha and Google Partner in 1st Cinema Hackathon in Israel

HaMidrasha’s Film Department collaborated with Google Israel for a first-of-its-kind cinematic hackathon. One Shot was a one-day look behind the scenes of the world of cinema and hands-on experience at producing “one shot” films for the network. Held in Google’s Tel Aviv offices May 21, participants met with Gal Muggia, Director of Coldplay’s Up & Up and DJ Snake’s Magenta Riddim music videos, Israeli Film Director Haim Tabakman, and senior Google executives who addressed the YouTube ecosystem and its future. Top lecturers from Beit Berl’s Film Department accompanied participants as they produced their “one shot.”

“The world of media is changing rapidly and tomorrow's creators are no longer concentrating on TV screens, but on mobile, social networks and YouTube. In order to understand the new challenges faced by the filmmakers of tomorrow, we created a one-time experience. The enormous potential in the field of technology has long been in the field of cinema. This hackathon is a unique opportunity for young filmmakers and students interested in the field to come and practice in filmmaking as it is behind the scenes and an opportunity to apply technological knowledge to this industry,” explained Dan Muggia, Head of Beit Berl’s Film Department.

The hackathon concluded with a screening of the one shots, where outstanding participants were awarded prizes including a professional GoPro camera and scholarships. Read more about HaMidrasha’s Film Department.
