The Arab Academic Institute of Education trains teachers for the Arab education system in Israel, with emphasis on Arabic language and culture. The Institute embraces the values of humanism and multiculturalism in preparing contemporary knowledge-based teachers who are capable of meeting the challenges of current “glocal” needs and requirements. Accordingly, the Institute’s teacher education program strives to develop commitment and ability to advance educational achievements and standards and to bring about communal changes to promote social justice, democracy, and egalitarianism.

Approximately 800 Arab students learn in the Institute and about 95 faculty members constitute the institute, including well-known scholars and researchers.

Studying Arab Language and Culture

The Institute houses Al Yanbuaa: The Center for the Study of Language, Society and Arabic Culture that aims to deepen the study of Arabic language, culture and society in Israel.

A unique model for learning

The Institute is renowned in the Arab community in Israel among those who seek to high-level academic training combined with intensive hands-on experience. The Institute provides a unique model for learning and teaching, in Arabic as well as in Hebrew. Studies take place on a common campus, where Arab and Jewish students learn some education and disciplinary courses together, while maintaining separate studies in Arabic for courses that deal with pedagogy, language and culture. In this way, the College provides a platform for cultural distinction, while building integration.

A broad spectrum of educational programs

The Arab Academic Institute of Education provides the following educational programs:

  • Undergraduate degree programs (B.Ed.) – focus on each stage of education (early childhood, elementary, and secondary education) as well as on special education. Students who study in these programs can specialize in a wide range of disciplines: Arabic language and literature; Hebrew language and literature; English; natural sciences; mathematics; and computer science.
  • A teaching certification program for those holding an academic degree
  • Continuing education for teachers and professional development programs in all fields of education.
  • M.Ed. degrees: Language Instruction (Arabic, Hebrew and English), Arab Education, and Culture.

Thus, the Institute provides a unique and wide-ranging curriculum, composed of subject matter studies, education and pedagogy courses, and field experience that emphasize leadership, creativity, critical thinking, and commitment to social change.
